The Virgin and The Gipsy Written by D.H. Lawrence Essays -- Virgin Gip
The Virgin and The Gipsy Written by D.H. Lawrence This novel is very intriguing and teaches lessons of morality, religion, and of life and death intended for those with imagination and insight. The author's style contributes deeply to the intrigue and true meaning to this novel. The author's use of imagery makes tensions in the story vivid and emphatic. In this story there is a re-occurring tension between religion and desire. The tension between religion and desire is most clearly demonstrated between the characters of Yvette and the rector. Yvette was brought up in a world of religious conventions and beliefs, an environment of forgiveness, love, and morality. This world is later realized to truly be a world of repression towards all feelings of passion and desire; not the environment of forgiveness, love, and morality Yvette and the readers are lead to believe. This starts the conflict between religion and desire, and confuses Yvette greatly because her religious upbringing denies and contradicts all her natural instincts of love, passion, and sexuality. The rector and Yvette do not share the same understanding of love. They are both very different in their thoughts and expressions, of what love is. The narrator in the story tells us what the rector thinks of Cynthia, his lost wife. He describes her as 'the pure white snow-flower'; (p.6) and expresses that her husband thought of her 'on inaccessible heightsâ⬠¦that she was throned in lone splendor aloft their lives, never to be touched'; (p.7) This would have the reader believe that Cynthia is considered in the rector's eyes to be like god not bodily in his life. At another point in the novel the narrator informs the reader that the rector believes Cynthia to be sacred and that she was enshrined in his heart, as if she were a religious idol, never simply expressing any love or desire for his lost wife. It's like the rector has moral religious love for his lost wife, and not passion or desire, like the love Yvette feels for the gypsy. When Yvette matures and realizes that she feels differently than her family, she undergoes a change in her heart, and attitude. Yvette's father picks up on her chan ge and resents her for it because the rector wishes Yvette to be pure and clean like him, or her sister Lucille who turned out the way the rector intended. Therefore not expressing or experiencing true l... ...der that the truth will set you free, and lead you into making the right decisions. The flood is a symbol of re-birth, the flood wiped out the dark, dull stone house, and giving Yvette a second chance at the life she wishes to pursue. The characters are a very important role in the novel and are very diversified. Each character is unique and opinionated which adds contrast and intrigue. Cynthia left her husband for another man, but in her husband's eyes is still considered as pure. The rector is an odd man. Even though his wife left him for another man, he worships her as if she were his god. Perhaps this emphasizes his feelings and beliefs towards her, which are holy and without desire. He does not know the meaning of love, or desire so the reader is lead to believe that his beliefs of holiness, and of purity are his means of recognizing love. This novel was very symbolic and had an extensive vocabulary. It was very intriguing and kept the reader's interest throughout the whole novel. I would recommend this novel to anyone who would like an exercise for his or her mind. There is a lot of insight needed to interpret this novel, but the challenge only adds to the intrigue.

Illustrated in the poems The Lady of Shalott and Ulysses by Alfred Lord
Illustrated in the poems The Lady of Shalott and Ulysses by Alfred Lord Tennyson, The Door by Mir slave Holub and The Girl in Times Square, a novel by Paulina Simmons. Change gives us roots; continuity gives us branches letting us stretch and grow to reach new heights. Living as we know it wouldnââ¬â¢t exist if change didnââ¬â¢t occur. This ability to continue changing is the only true security we have. This is illustrated in the poems ââ¬ËThe Lady of Shalottâ⬠and ââ¬ËUlyssesââ¬â¢ by Alfred Lord Tennyson, ââ¬ËThe Doorââ¬â¢ by Mir slave Holub and ââ¬ËThe Girl in Times Squareââ¬â¢, a novel by Paulina Simmons. Tennysonââ¬â¢s ââ¬ËThe Lady of Shalottââ¬â¢ is divided into four parts, following a strict and consistent meter and rhyme pattern throughout. The Lady of Shalott is a magical being who lives alone on the island of Shalott across the river from fast paced Camelot. The first 2 parts of the poem illustrate a place where everything stands still. There is a severe lack in movement and The lady of shallotââ¬â¢s surroundings appears to be idle. This is illustrated through the bleak and dull the poem provides.. ââ¬Å"Four grey walls and four grey towers..â⬠ââ¬Å"And the silent isle embowersâ⬠ââ¬Å"Slow horsesâ⬠. The uneventful and bland introduction serves its purpose by setting the tone and mood as a boring one, to only make the end excitingly climatic. The first and most important change that occurs in this text is the arrival of Sir Lancelot in Shalott. He is represented through the imagery of flames, sun, sparkle, glitter, stars, gold, silver, shine, burning light and glow. It was His mere presence that further sickened The lady of Shalott of only seeing shadows and compelled her to leave her loom. The fact that the decision to leave was hers alone, even t... ...result of choices among alternate paths offered by the present, but a place that we create using our minds and will, then in activity. The future is a place we are creating not going to. The path is to be made not found and through change she can achieve the most unique and fulfilling destinations. It is from the didactive nature of all of these texts we can conclude that change is inevitable. Change can be positive or negative. With change comes responsibility, but the price is always worth what we got for it. The emotive, descriptive language and imagery used in Tennysonââ¬â¢s poems, symbolism and simplicity of ââ¬ËThe Doorââ¬â¢ and the mystery of ââ¬ËThe Girl in Times Squareââ¬â¢ all profoundly affect the way I have viewed change as a necessary element of living, making it so simple to say that Change by itself is the most powerful agent to growth and transformation.

Navistar Supply Management Essay
Executive Summary Navistar was a worldwide leader in the manufacturing medium and heavy trucks for 17 consecutive years in the North America market. Navistarââ¬â¢s premium conventional trucks were produced at the Chatham assembly plant, which had almost 14 years experience in producing Navistarââ¬â¢s premium line since 1983. Navistar had forecasted increased industry demand for heavy and medium trucks in 1998. Especially, the Chatham assembly plantââ¬â¢s customers had strict requirements to the truckââ¬â¢s quality and delivery date. As the assembly supervisor in Chatham, Andy Ramsz encountered the interior trim quality and delivery problem for the truck. Andy had begun to gather data on the interior trim supply problem and he got the crucial reasons for these problems occurred. These reasons absolutely affected the Navistarââ¬â¢s internal supply process, increased the extra cost as well as reduced the efficiency of the supply management. According to the reasons identified for the trim supply problem, my decision is to set up the improved procedure focused on problems identified and take plans to enhance efficiency and productiveness of trim supply chain so as to relieve the difficulty of shortage problem and meet customersââ¬â¢ requirement accurately. Issue Identification Navistar provides premium trucks that ranged in design from no frill models to highly customized units. Customers are able to select from customized units which represented 50-80 percent of production volumes. These customized units contained various options that formed kits that included anywhere from 18-26 individual trim pieces. Andy Ramsz, the Assembly Supervisor at Navistarââ¬â¢s Chatham facility has been experiencing an issue with interior trim shortages for Navistarââ¬â¢s premium conventional trucks. The shortage of parts and non compliance with delivery schedules did not allow plant assemblers to complete the interior of a truck. The delay in completing the truck affected the bottom line as the interruption in waiting for replacement parts caused additional time and money. Environmental Issue Navistar considered quality and on-time delivery as a priority that came before costs; therefore, various improvement initiatives to quality programs were supported by top management as well as initiatives to improve processes and on-time delivery. Andy is an Assembly Supervisor but had very broad job responsibilities. Andyââ¬â¢s time was taken up in areas such as supplier quality evaluations, internal process documentation, process improvement, and much more. His focus was very widespread and his day was drawn away from scheduled and unscheduled meetings; this position required long hours and weekend work. In addition to the quality issues, truck interior trim shortages was another challenge which resulted in reordering of trim parts leading to additional material handling, and post- assembly installation. These delayed parts required overtime that increased cost and delayed delivery of the finished truck to the customer. Issues came from both Navistar and their supplier Trimco. Navistar had design changes such as different sizes, repositioning of mechanisms and other various designer and material changes; however, these changes to the truck interiors were not communicated to Trimco before production runs were completed. As a result, parts were shipped with different specifications than those needed for proper fit during assembly. Due to the lack of coordination and communication, this caused hurdles to Navistar and Trimcoââ¬â¢s just in time system where lead and delivery times were compressed. As a key supplier for Navistar, Trimco provided 420,000 parts annually to Navistar. Unfortunately, of these parts, approximately 3,100 were defective, missing or inappropriate for use. These 3100 parts were another financial burden and jeopardized customer service. Due to the lack of centralisation and limited computer systems capability, Trimco had difficulty monitoring outgoing parts for shipments sent to Navistar; inappropriate component of trim parts or insufficient quantities of the correct parts were supplied. Andy estimated that costs associated with the interior trim shortages were over $200,000 per year. The company was not being run efficiently and quality control was hindering the performance for Navistar. Furthermore, Trimco was QS9000 certified, but the quality control procedures varied throughout as the company lacked consistency. To make matters worse, Trimco also had high employee turnover which meant that employees were notà all properly trained and failed to understand the knowledge and specifications of customer requirements. Alternatives Alternative 1 Research and Source another reputable supplier to manufacture 30% of the customized trim parts ââ¬â To improve financial situation and alleviate the shortage issue, Navistar can source out a portion of their customized parts to another supplier while maintaining the other 70% to Trimco. The new supplier will adhere to the specifications of Navistarââ¬â¢s customization requirements by going through training programs. Pros: Meet on-time delivery and reduce the number of shortages Creates more inventory and safety stock Could be less risky for Navistar as they donââ¬â¢t have all their eggs in one basket Another supplier puts pressure on Trimco as they could possibly lose more business, so they would hopefully improve their shortage issue Cons: High cost to source, train and implement quality processes with new supplier Separating parts can confuse Accounts Payable and payment, additional paperwork Purchasing power can decrease if inventory is split between multiple vendors No guarantee that delivery and quality will immediately fit to conformity Alternative 2 Navistar will work with Trimco to develop cross-organizational teams and partnerships to re-examine programs for product quality, training, processes and logistics. Exchanging information with Trimco and having open and effective communication to work on areas of concern externally and internally will help improve operations and business for the plant, Navistar and Trimco. Pros: Working with one another by sharing my resources will help both companies ind solutions and work more efficiently By collaborating ideas and using cross-organizational teams, companies can increase efficiencies and reduce costs Creates a strong and long relationship Potential to improve lead times Cons: High cost implementing and initiating programs Takes a long time to make changes Potential for lots of changes leading to possibility of turnover if employees do not like changes If not properly executed, could be confusing to employees Alternative 3 Decrease the customerââ¬â¢s design options. Decreasing design options and providing standard packages will reduce the numerous trim parts for production; this can possibly increase the appropriate shortage and delivery issue. Navistar provided customized units to satisfy different customersââ¬â¢ requirements; customers should change the design before the production runs, which often resulted in the failure of communication to the supplier for the change, and inappropriate trim provided, or delivery delay. Pros: Standardize the ââ¬Å"kitsâ⬠form for the interior trim to increase the appropriate delivery and installation procedure. More efficient to organize production and procure trim parts. Convenient for supplier to produce trim parts and arrange the stock and inventory. Cons: Navistar may lose the market shares without the specific feature and attracting styling. Recommendation Alternative 2 ââ¬â Navistar will work with Trimco to develop cross-organizational teams and partnerships to re-examine programs for product quality, training, processes and logistics. Working together with Trimco and reviewing internal processes will help Navistar rectify the trim shortage issue. Even though both companies have quality management systems and programs, a revised quality program should be cooperatively put together to increase efficiency. A Quality Representative from each organization should be placed in the other company to check on conformity, quality and completion of kits. With the help of Trimco, Navistar can create a workbook for inspection procedures for incoming kits and Trimco will have a procedure to follow for kits going outbound. The inspection will have a review checklist that examines the kits as they come in/out; if there are missing parts, they should be documented immediately. Incoming shipments with part shortages that are taken from another kit will be required to be documented and ordered. Trimco will also upgrade their computer system and enhance the centralization to monitor outgoing parts. Trimco had difficulty responding to Navistarââ¬â¢s design changes. Navistar will need to implement a new process to allow increase in lead time for new design changes and communicate changes to the Trimcoââ¬â¢s design and manufacturing department. Once Navistar receives confirmation from Trimco they can expect to receive the correct trims with the correct design changes. There has been high turnover at Trimco and training employees has not been up to par. Trimco will need to work with Navistar to create a program for product quality and control than develop a manual for process and development. It will be beneficial for Navistar to help Trimco with a program and manual as this will help hold their employees to compliance standards. The manual will be a reference and include quality planning activities and controls that document the manufacture of Navistar products. Navistar has internal challenges that can be changed to help with the quality and logistics. Andy was given too many responsibilities and his focus was widespread, some of his responsibilities should be the responsibility of managers. Creating some time for Andy will allow him to focus on his core responsibilities and look to programs on continuous improvement. Allowing Andy to have free time will help as he should figure out that providing aà forecast to Trimco will more preparation for parts. The plant at Chatham should try and lean out duplicate processes and perhaps change the order in which the trim assembly took place. The trim was placed into the cab than the cab placed onto the chassis. The cab isnââ¬â¢t dependent on whether the trim assembly is in place; therefore, if trims were added further down the line it would provide more lead time for orders. Implementation Plan Navistar will need to assess internal process and to work with Trimcoââ¬â¢s manufacturing department to improve their quality control and process. 1-4 Months: Navistar and Trimco will need to select a Quality Representative and train them on the requirements and specifications for the customized products. Quality representatives and the Manager of Manufacturing at Trimco will help develop a training process and combine that knowledge into Training Manuals to help train current and future Trimco employees. Navistar will provide forecasting tools and reports and review with Trimco to determine mutual understanding of the documents. Trimco will upgrade their computer systems so that monitoring of outgoing parts will be more accurate. 5-6 Months ââ¬â Quality and consistency will be rigorously inspected and tested to ensure that they meet the quality standards. Navistar will set up KPI to the supplier to determine quality and performance and will be audited. Trimco will have the forecast so they should have safety stock based on the Navistarââ¬â¢s forecast Monitor and Control Navistar will need to examine the success of the implementation process; the training of staff, and shortages of trim parts will be assessed. The staff should be tested during the first month to see that they are comfortable and understand all the requirements for Navistar. Also, monitoring the Tricmo to see if they are using the forecast to meet production levels should be assessed monthly. Navistar will need to set KPIs and notified when quotas arenââ¬â¢t being met as this could be an indication of inefficiency. Areas in operations such as production level, turnaround time, disruptions, and flexibility for change would be taken as key performance measurements. Audit KPI Monthly Notes ââ¬â Issues *Shortage of trim parts to Navistar Notes ââ¬â Environmental Interior cut back Quality and Delivery Problem * Missing or Inappropriate trim parts. This resulted in: * Reordering of parts * Additional Material Handling * Post aggregation Installation that needed overtime ($42 per hour) * Eventually decease to a delay in delivery * Typical truck contains 18-26 individualist trims costing $630-$770 * Andy estimated that trim part shortages cost the company $200,000 annually *Slowing down the line due to reordering of parts, extra time and money in material handling, post assembly installation and HR management Trimco Industries * Supplied over 450 parts in 5 different colours and 3 different trim levels * Trimco sent about 420,000 units a course of which about 3100 were defective (0. Some processes within their facility were passing automated while some were manual * Used Quality visit Techniques Statistical Process Control (SPC), Manual Inspection and heel over Production. * Due to lack of centralisation and limited computer governance capability * Difficulty in Monitoring Outgoing Parts * Sent shipments with contradictory parts or incorrect quantities * High Attrition rate leading to employees with poor level of training, hence some employees were insensible of customer requirements * The company had difficulty responding to certain design changes. * At times these design changes were not sent by Navistar forward production runs and hence parts Notes ââ¬â Alternatives 1 ââ¬â Source another vendor 30% of trim parts Pros: Meet on-time delivery and reduce the number of shortages Creates more inventory and safety stock Could be less risky for Navistar as they donââ¬â¢t have all their eggs in one basket Another supplier puts pressure on Trimco as they could possibly lose more business, so they would hopefully improve their shortage issue Cons: High cost to source, train and implement quality processes with new supplier Separating parts can confuse Accounts Payable and payment, additional paperwork Purchasing power can decrease if inventory is split between multiple vendors No guarantee that delivery and quality will immediately fit to conformity 2 ââ¬â Collaborate with Trimco for improvement Pros: Working with one another by sharing my resources will help both companies find solutions and work more efficiently By collaborating ideas and using cross-organizational teams, companies can increase efficiencies and reduce costs Creates a strong and long relationship Cons: High cost implementing and initiating programs Takes a long time to make changes Potential for lots of changes leading to possibility of turnover if employees do not like changes If not properly executed, could be confusing to employees 3 ââ¬â decrease customization option Pros: Standardize the ââ¬Å"kitsâ⬠form for the interior trim to increase the appropriate delivery and installation procedure. More efficient to organize production and procure trim parts. Convenient for supplier to produce trim parts and arrange the stock and inventory. Cons: Navistar may lose the market shares without the specific feature and attracting styling. Notes ââ¬â Recommendation *Monitor supplier performance *How to get the QA deptââ¬â¢s aligned between the companies? 1. Navistar ââ¬â supply chain division restructuring on a strategic level b. Andyââ¬â¢s responsibilities to be shared between new subdivisions/departments taking away some of his current functions (e.g. internal documentation and material management) c. Logistics audit/review to be implemented by external company to set new procedures particularly for parts flow 2. Chatham plant ââ¬â reorganization of assembly a. To review assembly process and redesign production steps for smooth and consistent move of the truck to decrease customization level and shorten production lead time b. Interior trim process flow ââ¬â reduce/eliminate NVA steps through c. Increase communication efficiency with Trimco to send proper and in time data for last minute changes/redesign 3. Trimco ââ¬â tighter collaboration to help them produce quality a. Involve Trimco in logistics audit c. INTRODUCTION Jawaharlal Nehru was born on 14 November 1889. He died on 27 May 1964. He was an Indian statesman who was the first (and to date the longest-serving) prime minister of India, from 1947 until 1964. One of the leading figures in the Indian independence movement, Nehru was elected by the Congress Party to assume office as independent India's first Prime Minister, and re-elected when the Congress Party won India's first general election in 1952. As one of the founders of the Non-aligned Movement, he was also an important figure in the international politics of the post-war era.He is frequently referred to as Pandit Nehru (ââ¬Å"panditâ⬠being a Sanskrit and Hindi honorific meaning ââ¬Å"scholarâ⬠or ââ¬Å"teacherâ⬠) and, specifically in India, as Panditji (with ââ¬Å"-jiâ⬠being a honorific suffix). The son of a wealthy Indian barrister and politician, Motilal Nehru, Nehru became a leader of the left wing of the Indian National Congress when still fai rly young. Rising to become Congress President, under the mentorship of Mahatma Gandhi, Nehru was a charismatic and radical leader, advocating complete independence from the British Empire. In the long struggle for Indian independence, in which he was a key player, Nehru was eventually recognized as Gandhi's political heir. Throughout his life, Nehru was also an advocate for Fabian socialism and the public sector as the means by which long-standing challenges of economic development could be addressed by poorer nations. PERSONAL LIFE AND EDUCATION Jawaharlal Nehru was born to Motilal Nehru (1861ââ¬â1931) and Swaroop Rani (1863ââ¬â1954) in a Kashmiri Pandit family. Nehru was educated in India and Britain. In England, he attended the independent boy's school, Harrow and Trinity College, Cambridge.During his time in Britain, Nehru was also known as Joe Nehru. On 8 February, 1916, Nehru married seventeen year old Kamala Kaul. In the first year of the marriage, Kamala gave birth t o their only child, Indira Priyadarshini. Life and career Nehru raised the flag of independent India in New Delhi on 15 August 1947, the day India gained Independence. Nehru's appreciation of the virtues of parliamentary democracy, secularism and liberalism, coupled with his concerns for the poor and underprivileged, are recognized to have guided him in formulating socialist policies that influence India to this day. They also reflect the socialist origins of his worldview. He is sometimes referred to as the ââ¬Å"Architect of Modern Indiaâ⬠. His daughter, Indira Gandhi, and grandson, Rajiv Gandhi, also served as Prime Ministers of India. Successor to gandhi On 15 January 1941 Gandhiji said, ââ¬Å"Some say Pandit Nehru and I were estranged. It will require much more than difference of opinion to estrange us. We had differences from the time we became co-workers and yet I have said for some years and say so now that not Rajaji but Jawaharlal will be my successor. â⬠Finaly earsNehru had led the Congress to a major victory in the 1957 elections, but his government was facing rising problems and criticism. Disillusioned by intra-party corruption and bickering, Nehru contemplated resigning but continued to serve. The election of his daughter Indira as Congress President in 1959 aroused criticism for alleged nepotism, although actually Nehru had disapproved of her election, partly because he considered it smacked of ââ¬Å"dynastiesâ⬠; he said, indeed it was ââ¬Å"wholly undemocratic and an undesirable thingâ⬠, and refused her a position in his cabinet.Indira herself was at loggerheads with her father over policy; most notably, she used his oft-stated personal deference to the Congress Working Committee to push through the dismissal of the Communist Party of India government in the state of Kerala, over his own objections. Nehru began to be frequently embarrassed by her ruthlessness and disregard for parliamentary tradition, and was ââ¬Å"hurt â⬠by what he saw as an assertiveness with no purpose other than to stake out an identity independent of her father.Although the Pancha Sila (Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence) was the basis of the 1954 Sino-Indian treaty over Tibet, in later years, Nehru's foreign policy suffered through increasing Chinese antagonism over border disputes and Nehru's decision to grant asylum to the Dalai Lama. After years of failed negotiations, Nehru authorized the Indian Army to annex Goa from Portugal in 1961. While increasing his popularity, Nehru received criticism for opting for military action. In the 1962 elections, Nehru led the Congress to victory yet with a diminished majority.Opposition parties ranging from the right-wing Bharatiya Jana Sangh and Swatantra Party, socialists and the Communist Party of India performed well. In a matter of months, the border disputes with China turned into open conflict. Nehru assumed that as former victims of imperialism (India being a colony it self) they shared a sense of solidarity, as expressed in the phrase ââ¬Å"Hindi-Chini bhai bhaiâ⬠(Indians and Chinese are brothers). He was dedicated to the ideals of brotherhood and solidarity among developing nations.Nehru, credulously, did not believe that one fellow Socialist country would attack another; and in any event, he felt secure behind the impregnable wall of ice that is the Himalayas. Both proved to be severe miscalculations of China's intentions and military capabilities. Following reports of his intention to confront Chinese occupation of the disputed areas ââ¬â summarised in a memorable statement that he had asked the Army to ââ¬Å"throw them (Chinese) outâ⬠ââ¬â China launched a pre-emptive attack. In a matter of days, a Chinese invasion of northeastern India exposed the weaknesses of India's military as Chinese forces came as far as Assam. Widely criticized for his government's insufficient attention to defence, Nehru was forced to sack the def ence minister Krishna Menon and seek U. S. military aid. Nehru's health began declining steadily, and he was forced to spend months recuperating in Kashmir through 1963. Some historians attribute this dramatic decline to his surprise and chagrin over the invasion of India by the Chinese, which he perceived as a betrayal of trust.Upon his return from Kashmir in May 1964, Nehru suffered a stroke and later a heart attack. He died in the early hours of 27 May 1964. Nehru was cremated in accordance with Hindu rites at the Shantivana on the banks of the Yamuna River, witnessed by hundreds of thousands of mourners who had flocked into the streets of Delhi and the cremation grounds. LEGACY As India's first Prime minister and external affairs minister, Jawaharlal Nehru played a major role in shaping modern India's government and political culture along with sound foreign policy. He is praised for creating a system providing universal primary education, reaching children in the farthest corner s of rural India. Nehru's education policy is also credited for the development of world-class educational institutions such as the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Indian Institutes of Technology, and the Indian Institutes of Management. In addition, Nehru's stance as an unfailing nationalist led him to also implement policies which stressed commonality among Indians while still appreciating regional diversities. This proved particularly important as post-Independence differences surfaced since British withdrawal from the subcontinent prompted regional leaders to no longer relate to one another as allies against a common adversary. While differences of culture and, especially, language threatened the unity of the new nation, Nehru established programs such as the National Book Trust and the National Literary Academy which promoted the translation of regional literatures between languages and also organized the transfer of materials between regions. In pursuit of a single, un ified India, Nehru warned, ââ¬Å"Integrate or

Coke Zero Essay
1. Some industry analysts think soft-drink companies should develop products that will bring new customers into the market rather than just creating variants on the old. They warn that products like Coke Zero will cannibalize lost market share from other soft drink categories instead of increasing the number of consumers overall. Which Coca-Cola products are most likely to lose customers to Coke Zero? Since Coke Zero is targeting Men, I think that regular Coca-Cola, Diet Coke, and Diet Coke Plus will all lose some of their customers to Coke Zero. Coke Zero has the word ââ¬Å"zeroâ⬠in it which already sounds a lot better than ââ¬Å"Diet Cokeâ⬠or ââ¬Å"Diet Coke Plusâ⬠. ââ¬Å"Coke Zeroâ⬠is straight to the point and automatically has the potential customer thinking he (or she) will not be consuming any calories. 2. Why do you think that the hidden-camera videos used to promote Coke Zero were an effective way to reach its target market? Do you think a similar strategy with a viral marketing campaign on the Internet would appeal to the target market for Diet Coke Plus? I think the hidden cameras were a good idea, but not completely original. I also disagree with Coca-Cola company targeting only men ââ¬â I think they should promote it to women as well. They really do have a great affect when the word ââ¬Å"zeroâ⬠is in itââ¬â¢s name. Men arenââ¬â¢t the only ones that want to lose a few extra pounds while still enjoying a Coca-Cola carbonated beverage ââ¬â they just donââ¬â¢t want all the extra calories or sugar. 3. Do you think Diet Coke could have been repositioned to change consumersââ¬â¢ perceptions of it enough to be considered a drink equally appealing to men? Why or why not?

The Philosophy that truth makes you free Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
The Philosophy that truth makes you free - Essay Example I live by this philosophy. I believe that it is every important for your every action to have a strong ethical and moral reasoning. You are always first answerable to yourself and then to others. If you are not ethically and morally correct, it is very difficult to be in peace with yourself. The above philosophy is not always easy to follow. There are many instances where an easy thing to do under a circumstance might not be morally or ethically correct. Also the easier way out might also have immediate consequences that can be beneficial. But in a long run, you end up in trouble or at loss. Hence, I strictly believe in doing the right thing rather than the easier one. Doing the right thing is not very easy. As easier way out has immediate benefits, doing the right thing might have negative consequences immediately. Hence, it is very tempting to take the easier way out. If not, you might end up hurting your closed ones and cause trouble to yourself. But over time the dots will connec t and the right thing to do always turns out to be beneficial. I always try to do what is morally and ethically right. Also the above main philosophy branches out into smaller philosophies which I follow. I never judge anybody. I believe that an enemy or an opposition is just someone with a different view point.

Presentation - Essay Example Lis poetry has survived through the years and has gained imperishable popularity not only in China, but also developed a good influence in the Western world through translations. This discussion will be about the literary components and illustrations of Li Baiââ¬â¢s poems, particularly focusing on the way he has handled each of his poems, depicting its theme and primary images. The aesthetic sense in his poetic descriptions along with his recurring theme of nature is discussed in detail. Li Bai was born in Sichuan province, in what is now Central Asia, in 701 A.D. In his early years, he led a carefree life as an itinerant wandering throughout China with his companion and co-poet, Du Fu. Living during the mid-Tang Dynasty, which was called the ââ¬ËGolden Age of Chinaââ¬â¢, he was influenced by Taoist thoughts. He wished of becoming an official in the dynasty but his family heritage did not provide enough opportunities for it. However, in 742 A. D., he was introduced to the emperor Xuanzong, as a fabled carouser who fascinated the public and aristocrats through his poetic skills. Even though he had little academic knowledge, he was appointed to the Hanlin academy by the Emperor. As a prestigious poet to the ruler, he settled with the Emperor making poetry for him and the academy. However, the revolt, which occurred soon after his elevation, exiled him out of the position. Being a superfluous imaginative poet, his death was also romanticized by a fable in which h is attempt to catch the moonââ¬â¢s light in a river led to his drowning.
